The Link 2018 opens to athleisure. The search of new young talents has started over

Green-light to the edition 2018 of The Link, the contest organized and promoted by MarediModa, the trade show dedicated to fabrics and accessories for beachwear, underwear and athleisure which will take place in Cannes from 6 to 8 November 2018. On the occasion of this fourteenth year, the contest aims at discovering the best designers in beachwear, underwear as well as athleisure to put them in touch leading companies of the industry offering a real chance of success.

A selection of over a hundred European schools, hundreds of projects, sessions and selections. Nine finalists will get to the stage in Cannes and three winners only, one for each category. An extraordinary experience and a rigorous procedure will introduce the best talents to the public allowing them to enter the world of fashion from a fast lane.
The contest announcement has already been published, schools have received the contest poster and social networks are inviting young designers to sketch out a mini collection for beachwear, underwear or athleisure. A first jury will examine the works and select the best students for the three categories. Young designers will receive the most appropriate fabrics to turn their sketches into a finished garment. In this stage skills in fitting and modeling are really important. This test will decree the finalists’ names, those “magnificent nine” who will lay on the line in Cannes where they will enjoy an exhibition area, interesting meetings and visibility. Visitors of MarediModa will decree the winners’ names during a special and highly-followed fashion show which will take place on Nov. 7th at the Palais des Festivals. All finalists will also have the opportunity to present their collection during the catwalk which will take place in the summer edition of Mare d’ Amare, the beachwear show, held in Florence at the Fortezza da Basso. Each category winner will receive a cash prize and will attend an internship in a leading company of the industry.
It is worth mentioning that many finalists of the past editions of The Link are running their own beachwear or underwear business or collaborating full time with prestigious style offices at international companies. Shivan & Narresh from India, winners in 2006, are the creators of the first Indian luxury beachwear brand: "Shivan & Narresh" (the first Indian brand to show at the Mercedes Fashion Week Swim in Miami, opened single-brand stores in India in 2006); Marika Vera, from Mexico, finalist in 2009, has launched her own brand focusing on refined and sensual lingerie collection. Its creations are sold all over the world and worn by stars like di Rihanna, Daisy Lowe, Jessie Ware, Naomi Harris and Emily Ratajkowski. Daniela Colzani from Brazil, winner in 2010, has handled the opening of the prestigious Istituto di Moda Burgo in Brazil; Basma Masri, from Lebanon, winner in 2013, after two internships at La Perla and Ralph & Russo, has been working as Senior Lingerie Designer at the trend bureau Concept Paris since 2014. Lara Bui Marelli, from Italy and winner in 2014, has been immediately noticed by the beachwear and underwear company Parah, she started with an internship and today she is Assistant product manager; Ruwen Song, finalist in 2014 with Yuman He, winner in 2016, both from China, studied at the London College of Fashion, have launched Voiment their lingerie and beachwear brand.
